Know what you are feeding! Ohio State University Extension is again offering reduced cost hay analysis. In recent years making quality first cutting hay has been
a challenge with forages often not meeting the needs of livestock, thus requiring supplementation. This reduced cost testing is provided by the Extension eBarns program and Small Ruminant Research lab.

How to take a proper hay sample:
• Place dry hay in paper bag, wet wrapped hay/balage in plastic bag and place in freezer.
• Samples must be delivered to local county Extension office by July 30, 2026
• Sample should include your name and completed sample form on the back of this flyer.

Most Extension offices have a forage sampling probe that they loan out for collecting samples.
Samples must be taken with a forage sampling probe to have any chance of being representative of forage quality.
