  2. Tick Talk: Protecting People, Pets, and Livestock

    Ticks are more than a nuisance—they pose real health risks to people and animals. This free, hands-on program will cover how to identify tick habitat, perform your own tick surveys using drag methods, and reduce tick exposure on farms, pastures, and around the home. Participants will also learn best practices for protecting themselves and their livestock, and hear insights from a tick research expert Dr. Tim McDermott DVM and Troy Koser on local species and disease concerns.

  5. Species Essay Giveaway Contest

    Our Holmes County Sheep, Rabbit, Goat, and Dairy Committees are excited to announce an essay giveaway contest! These giveaways are open to all 1st-year project participants, not just 1st-year 4-Hers. To enter, applicants must submit a short essay describing themselves and how they plan to care for the project animal (including housing, feeding, showing, and selling). 

    All Essays must be submitted to the OSU Extension office by April 15 at 4:30 pm.

  7. Fertilizer Applicator Certification (private applicator)

    Feb. 04, 2026

    Who needs a fertilizer certification? Fertilizer certification is required if you apply fertilizer (other than manure) to more than 50 acres used for agricultural production grown primarily for sale. If you have the co-op or other custom applicator make your fertilizer applications, you do not need the certification.

    Have you ever thought about starting your own 4-H club? With the New Year right around the corner, now is the perfect time to start something new!

    Holmes County 4-H is growing, and we are looking for dedicated volunteers, current or brand new, who are eager to support youth, have time to give, and are willing to be trained. Starting a club is a rewarding way to make a lasting impact while helping young people build leadership, friendship, and lifeskills to last a lifetime.
