Emergencies can be stressful—but preparation builds confidence. This one-hour educational program provides an overview of recommended supplies for an on-farm veterinary emergency box, including wound care basics, vital sign monitoring, restraint and safety considerations, and critical documentation to keep accessible. Participants will learn what veterinarians need during an emergency call and how proper preparation supports animal welfare and strengthens the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR).

Know what you are feeding! Ohio State University Extension is again offering reduced cost hay analysis. In recent years making quality first cutting hay has been
a challenge with forages often not meeting the needs of livestock, thus requiring supplementation. This reduced cost testing is provided by the Extension eBarns program and Small Ruminant Research lab.

This hands-on cooking program, open to youth ages 8-12, is designed to teach recipe reading, cooking skills, kitchen safety, and proper cleanup.

Ticks are more than a nuisance—they pose real health risks to people and animals. This free, hands-on program will cover how to identify tick habitat, perform your own tick surveys using drag methods, and reduce tick exposure on farms, pastures, and around the home. Participants will also learn best practices for protecting themselves and their livestock, and hear insights from a tick research expert Dr. Tim McDermott DVM and Troy Koser on local species and disease concerns.

Our Holmes County Sheep, Rabbit, Goat, and Dairy Committees are excited to announce an essay giveaway contest! These giveaways are open to all 1st-year project participants, not just 1st-year 4-Hers. To enter, applicants must submit a short essay describing themselves and how they plan to care for the project animal (including housing, feeding, showing, and selling).
All Essays must be submitted to the OSU Extension office by April 15 at 4:30 pm.
